Joy & Anderson’s wedding by Fifoto

Say hello to Joy & Anderson’s wedding photos shot by WGA vendor Fifoto Photography. This has to be one of the most entertaining weddings we’ve had from Fifoto – just scroll down to see the fun photos of the groom and his men as they ‘pick up the bride’!

Here’s what Fiona from Fifoto had to say about the wedding:

After shooting their pre-wedding shots a year ago, we knew that their wedding was going to be one to remember! And we were right.

The Tai Kam Che was singing tunes from the BeeGees (in Cantonese, of course!) and the “Heng Tais” (groomsmen) cheered her on as backup singers during the tea ceremony. Just hilarious!!

To sum it up, I think “Purple Perfection” would be the words of the day – the 10 bridesmaids were dressed in matching purple dresses and the groomsmen (JasonBoy was the best man!) looked cute in their purple bow ties.  The Heng tais were very sporting (in fact, overly sporting!) and completed all tasks/games assigned to them, even if it meant having to put one’s face in a bowl of flour to look for a door key. Joy, needless to say, looked ravishing in her gown!

Vroom, Vroom! The Groom arrives in style to ‘pick up the bride’.

pick-up

Maybe not so stylish… but the bridesmaids came up with a range of fun ‘challenges’. Looks like bananas are the ‘in’ fruit this season and shaving got a lot more interesting for some..!

The new MAC lippy for Spring 2010?? Hehe.

Some nice moments captured by Fifoto photography.

decor

The wedding reception was held at the JW Marriot hotel in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Joy chose to create a theme of pink and purple hues. To add that special touch, little wedding wishes were written by guests and then hung on the entrance arch which was made of twigs.

Singapore wedding by Jack Images (Jackie Chan)

March 3rd, 2010 by Stephanie Chai | Posted in Little White Book Blog, Traditional, Wedding | 2 Comments

Walk-in-1-bride

Jackie Chan (no, not that Jackie Chan!) from Jack Images sent us this awesome pics from a wedding he shot in Singapore recently. The couple are Rongda & Lilac who had the traditional morning games with the ‘pick up the bride’ session, followed by their disco-themed evening reception!

game-1

It’s a Chinese wedding custom for the groom and his close friends to arrive at the bride’s house early in the morning to ‘pick up the bride’. It may sound like an easy task but do not be fooled my friends! The bridesmaids concoct an array of challenging (and funny) tests for the boys to do…

8.10-am

And you thought bananas were just fruit…

9am

Still huffing and puffing an hour later at 9 am! But climbing the stairs can only mean the bride is in a room nearby…

walk-in

Instead of the usual walk-in, this couple arranged a disco do and had the groomsmen, bridesmaid and themselves dancing down the aisle! It reminds me of this famous youtube video that we uploaded recently.

All in all some great photos by Jackie who captured the energy and fun of the wedding, good job! xx

Hip pre-wedding pics by FIFOTO!

Fifoto photography just sent in these BEAUTIFUL pre-wedding photos of Victor & Niz. Here’s what wedding photographer Fiona of FIFOTO wrote about them on her blog:

I have just three words to describe this couple: – YOUNG, HIP & HAPPENING! Of course, I kinda already knew they were the non-traditional, young & cool couple when they refused to take any conventional photos and requested for rustic shots in abandoned lots. Yesterday’s shoot confirmed it! These two are just adorable together! Other than the fact that both of them can equally outdo each other in posing, they surprised Jason & I when they burst into some funky dance moves wayyyyyyy early in the morning! We had soooooooooo much fun photographing the cute couple and here are some of my favorite shots!

Untitled-2

A savvy use of the iphone!

Fiona did a great job capturing the love & affection between Victor & Niz. Am loving the rustic feel of the pics… arty, cool & different.

f3

Do you have the panache of this couple? A sense of humour and fun can go a long way, remember when you’re planning your pre-wedding photos… the ball is in your court. Anything goes, as long as the two of you are happy :)

Planning an English wedding

Written by: Wan Sim (just married TWG reader!)

Wan Sim is just one of many Malaysians who having lived overseas, suddenly find themselves with two weddings to plan. One wedding back home for the family & friends, and another in their current location. Wan Sim was recently featured in Andy Lim’s post as he shot the couple’s pre-wedding pictures in Langkawi. She loved TWG so much (I think!:), that she very kindly sent in some articles. So for all the ladies who are planning both a wedding overseas and here in M’sia – this is a great read for you! Do check out Wan Sim’s very own LWB at the end of the article!

In the beginning

It all began when we got engaged in April of 2008, while we were crossing the Atlantic Ocean from New York to Southampton on the RMS QE2. I could have never guessed that as the ship began to sail off from the port of Manhattan, it was actually the beginning of a lifelong journey for both my husband and I. Three months later, we took our parents for a weekend cruise to Bruges and gave them a surprise by announcing our engagement onboard. Boy, did their jaws drop as they screamed with joy! It was yet another wonderful celebration sur la mer.

The guestlist

65 of our very close family and friends in the UK and from all around world. We had guests coming from France, Italy, Czech Republic, Sweden, Canada, Australia, Abu Dhabi, Hong Kong and Malaysia.

Rowton-Castle-1

The Venue

It was like love at first sight. When we drove up the driveway of Rowton Castle, we were stunned.

Dress

The Bridal gown

A British handmade, Italian silk taffeta ivory dress with French Chantilly lace bolero. After three months and fifty dresses, I came to realise that it was impossible to find a dress that could suit two very different venues, ceremonies, climates and countries. It was not until my third visit to Suzanne Neville Couture that I decided to have a bespoke dress made. My bridal style was classic and timeless with a hint of contemporary twist. I wanted a structured dress that had a modern front silhouette with a dramatic back view. It may sound simple, but infact it was a very complicated couture piece. I recalled vividly the very moment Suzanne showed me her finished sketch; I was almost in tears and hugged her. I loved it. It was the Dress. My Dress.

Shoes

Courtesy of Andy Lim Photography

The Bridal shoes

I love shoes. I was skipping to Jimmy Choo Couture with my bridal style folder once I had my dress details sorted. It was so much fun when choosing my own material, heel height and shape, the shoe structure and style for my shoes. All very crucial decisions as it reflected my personal style. I think comfort is Jimmy’s thing and true to his belief, I have never worn such comfortable high heel shoes in my life! I could have done some sprinting in them!  Jimmy and his team are ever so friendly. When one of my bridesmaids Elsie came with me to one of my fittings, Jimmy asked if she could sing her hottest new single for him, the ‘T-Shirt’ song with his name in it (Elsie looks a bit like the singer Shontelle)! We both burst into laughter. He has such wonderful sense of humour.

The Groom & groomsmen

Chris and the best man, ushers and the fathers wore the traditional English morning suit in classic black jacket and pinstripe trousers. The Groom wore an ivory satin waistcoat with chocolate brown cravat and hanky, with silver cufflinks and Black Baccara rose buttonhole. His men wore dusky pink cravat, hanky and cufflinks with Sweet Avalanche roses as buttonholes.

The Bridesmaids

And for my five bridesmaids, they all wore chocolate brown satins shoes to match with their dusky pink cocktail dresses tied with satin/organza brown sashes and diamante broaches. All the girls wore Black Baccara rose wrist corsages instead of having flower posies.

decor

The Details & Decorations

It was hard work assembling all the little personal touches for the wedding. The reception room was filled with my favourite Penhaligon’s Lily of the Valley scented candles. The aroma was just gorgeous. For flowers, I chose Dutch Avalanches roses with the bold coloured Black Baccara roses as my wedding flowers. I bought various types of Laura Ashley lanterns and glass lamps to scatter around my ceremony room, just to get that homely quintessential English feel that I like. My favourite deco of all — was the heart shaped symbol that I created by using two hanging birdcages stuffed with some Laura Ashley scented paper roses. They looked rustic and beautiful. To add some oriental touch to our venue, our family friend from Hong Kong sent us an embroidered Chinese cloth with our names and UK wedding date on it. For the Chinese, it was used traditionally as a ‘guest book’, and so we did!

Cake

Courtesy of Steve Shipman Photography

Wedding Cake

Our beautiful wedding cake was made by Chris’s mother, who six months prior to the wedding had already started making the traditional fruit cake, sugar craft flowers and trimmings. It was absolutely delicious. Traditionally, the top tier cake is saved for either your first anniversary or for the christening of your first born. Since we have two tiers of cakes left, we can have one for our first anniversary and another for our first-born! Bellissimo!

wedding-dance

Courtesy of Steve Shipman Photography

The First Dance

We chose to do an Argentine Tango, with one of our favourite songs Por Una Carbeza. Five weeks before our wedding, we decided to sign up for some private dance lessons in London. Our teacher choreographed our first dance and it involved a lot of hard work! Sometimes I wondered if they realised that we were absolute beginners and not professional ballroom dancers like themselves! They were suggesting some moves like up-in-the-air-twirling and technical lifts. I was too nervous to try them since I would be the one up in the air!! But the lessons were an enjoyable experience; it was like a timeout from our wedding ‘chaos’. We practiced for many, many hours – but it was all worth it in the end. Everybody was so amazed and surprised especially Chris’s parents, who have done ballroom dancing all their lives and did not have the slightest clue about our secret dance lessons!

The Best Moment of Our day

It is definitely when we exchanged our vows.  The minute when we said our lifelong promises to each other we knew this was the moment that we have been waiting for. We were nervous, but we were ready to be joined in matrimony. I could not plainly explain it as it was just this very joyful, contented and blissful feeling that we felt when we both spoke.  Our personal vows were the main storyline for our UK wedding clip, if you would like to catch a glimpse of it, click here.

That was Our day.

These lovely pics are courtesy of Jim Liaw from Jim Liaw Photography (JLP) and are from Ranil & Kanchana’s church wedding held at St. Francis Xaviers in Petaling Jaya, K.L.

I love these shots of the couple at the church and Kancana’s gown has a wonderful trail which always looks great walking down the aisle!

groom-&-bridesmaids

Whilst the bride donned a traditional white dress, her bridesmaids wore saris to reflect her indian heritage.

Thumbs up on how the saris are all earth tone colours as it pairs well with the daises; giving the wedding that free-spirited vibe. But must say that we absolutely adore these photos below of Kancana.. very pretty indeed!

Beautiful pre-wedding shoot by Jack Images

January 25th, 2010 by Stephanie Chai | Posted in Little White Book Blog, Traditional, Wedding | 2 Comments

JC

Say hello to our latest TWG photography vendor – Jack Images run by Jackie Chan. He might share the name with a famous movie star, but Malaysia’s Jackie Chan is not a veteran actor but rather a veteran in the photography industry here! After years of experience as a successful commercial photographer, he found requests from wedding clients piling up… and today happily divides his time between commercial and wedding shoots. I love these pre-wedding shots he did where Jackie had the brilliant idea of hiring an old school bus as the central prop.

JC-1

Tell us a little bit about yourself

I graduated in graphic design and majored in photography, so it has always been my passion for a long as I can remember! I started off with my own commercial studio but then also moved into weddings – I’ve now had ten years of experience in shooting weddings. Weddings are always fun and they give me something to look forward to for the weekends.

Do you have a team? Or solo?

I have a team of four photographers.

Bas-sekolah

How are you different from other photographers in town?

My background in commercial photography helps a lot as I understand the importance of planning and coming up with different concepts. Some couples would like to try something new instead of the usual pre-wedding shots. For this shoot, I came up with the idea of hiring an old bus and getting the couple to pose in it. I used photoshop to play around with the pics – as you can see there are different shots of them put into one pic.

I am very passionate about what I do so I personally sit down with the couples and we talk about their vision and how we can bring that to light. Just as I do with commercial shoots, I physically go to check out different locations first to ensure they are suitable.

b&w-JC

What have been your favourite weddings to shoot?

There was one wedding at Hotel Maya that was a lot of fun, as the fiance was from Singapore so there were a whole bunch of Singaporeans staying there. The lighting at the hotel was also very good… this is important as you can be a pro photographer but if the lighting is terrible it will affect your shots. Another wedding I shot at Avallion in P.D was also great, it was for a Malaysian couple who lived in the UK but came back to tie the knot. Everything ran smoothly, looked beautiful and was well planned.

Thanks for these wonderful pics Jackie! If you’d like to get in touch with Jackie click here.

Kris & Melinda’s wedding by Andy Lim

bridesmaids

Hot off the press! We just got these awesome pics of Kris & Melinda’s wedding from LWB vendor Andy Lim. The church service was held St. John’s Cathedral here in Kuala Lumpur in December.

groom

I love the purple and white theme – it’s very simple, soft but pretty.

Wedding`

How cute – the wedding bearer looks like he needed a little bit of convincing to walk down the aisle! Mel’s wedding shoes are also very stylish,  love the ribbons.

flowergirls

To make the wedding feel more personal, the couple asked Melinda’s niece to perform. Note that the flowergirls also have really cute hairpieces. Much more fashionable that the 80s tiara I wore as a flowergirl!

Congrats to Kris & Melinda! If you’d like to contact Andy then click here.

Deborah Henry’s sister Rebecca walks down the aisle!

The beautiful Rebecca Henry - eldest of the three sisters

The beautiful Rebecca Henry - eldest of the three sisters

Remember when TWG interviewed local celeb Miss Malaysia World Deborah Henry? Well, the wedding day finally arrived in December and saw Deborah’s elder sister Rebecca tie the knot with her long-term boyfriend Dinesh Noveland. As they are a Christian family, a traditional church wedding was held at St. Marys Cathedral in Kuala Lumpur.

St Mary's Church

St Mary's Church

Rebecca is lucky to come from a big family – rather than hire a wedding planner, she had a bevy of aunties and uncles who would come to the family home once a week or so for ‘meetings’!

These beautiful shots are done by The Photoz, one of the most sort after wedding studios in K.L. Rebecca’s gown is from an Australian designer, ‘Bride’s desire’ by Airs & Graces.

Bridesmaids & flower girls

As the theme was yellow and white, the bridesmaids had lovely dresses designed and made my local Malaysian designer Melinda Looi.

Love the yellow and white theme!

The ‘boys’ were in fashion with matching yellow ties and corsages. Their lovely suits are from Wollenshop Vincent Tailor in Amcorp Mall.

bits

By the guestbook there were wedding photos of the bride & groom's parents

With a great wedding, it’s the details that give it that extra something. The Henry’s chose to have a fountain of cupcakes from Wondermilk and also put up photos of family wedding pics – which I think is a really nice touch. Remember, a marriage is more than two people falling in love, it’s also about two families coming together. So it’s great to see ‘bits of history’ when you’re ‘making history’.

"I do"

Don’t you think Rebecca makes a beautiful bride? I love these shots of her with the flowergirls… especially with just that touch of light on her veil.

Perfect pictures

And lastly, a family shot!

If you have a big and supportive family like this… you could get away with not using a wedding planner :)

Family from Australia, Ireland and of course... Malaysia!

Lovely Langkawi pre-wedding shots by Andy Lim

December 14th, 2009 by Stephanie Chai | Posted in Traditional, Wedding | 2 Comments
Andy Lim: Pre-Wedding shots

Love this!

Wow. Now this is a pre-wedding potrait! Whisked away to the tropical beaches of Langkawi, this shot of Chris & Wan Sim is just breathtaking. I think its very Hollywood romantic movie meets ‘Gone with the wind.’ Andy Lim is the mastermind wedding photographer behind these shots and when I spoke to him, apparently his secret was to get the couple to do their wedding dance!

Shot at Berjaya Langkawi Beach and Spa Resort and Tanjung Rhu Resort, the couple were blessed with one perfect day after two days of rain! Which worked out perfectly as the slight overcast meant perfect light and colour tones for the couple’s pre-wedding portraits.

Andy Lim: Pre-wedding shots

The photos look really natural and this is because Andy directed Chris & Wan Sim to simply just be themselves (with a teeny bit of choreographing!). His mantra is to always ensure that the couple has fun… if not you’ll end up with pics that look stiff and rigid.

Andy Lim: Pre-wedding shots

Can you feel the love tonight…

Andy Lim: Pre-wedding shots

and he seals it with a kiss…

I really like what Andy has done with the tone of these photos – it could of come out all grey and dreary (due to the weather) but instead the hues are soft and personify romance with a dreamy effect. Good job!

P.S – If you like Wan Sim’s look… she used make-up artist Lee Kuen from Bridal Glam. In her own words:

“Her work is just excellent.  The cosmetic products she used are of high quality and the wonderful air-brush result was just flawless. In comparison with the other make-up artists that I have met, Lee Kuen was very patient and professional.  During my trial with her, she listened attentively to what my preferred bridal style is, rather than just slapping a china doll face on me and making me look like another ’opera’ bride (which I really, really did not want!). She worked her fingers until she got the thumbs up from me.  On the day of our shoot, she worked with her magic fingers again. The end result is perfect, a whole ‘ME’ look – enhancing only my natural features, but with that hint of glam.”

Ivanka Trump’s wedding photos

November 30th, 2009 by Stephanie Chai | Posted in Traditional, Wedding | 3 Comments

Remember our very first post on Ivanka Trump’s engagement to the dashing Jared Kushner? After only three months of engagement, the couple have now tied the knot and released some of their exclusive wedding photos online.  The pics are from Popsugar (Photos courtesy of Brian Marcus/Fred Marcus Photography via Getty Images), and I think they make a handsome couple… TWG wishes them the best of luck!

Ivanka and Jared

Ivanka and Jared

The lovely couple tied the knot at the Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, NJ (keep it in the family), where they said their vows under a huge huppah (Jewish for wedding canopy).

The Huppah

The Huppah

Ivanka, who no doubt is the shining star of Donald’s children, unsurprisingly adorned jewels from… her Ivanka Trump Collection! From her own line – a $45,000 hair clip, $130,000 diamond drop earrings and a $90,000 Art Deco-inspired bracelet.

ivanka-trump-wedding5-500

Beautiful natural eye make-up with light lip colour. And earrings by Ivanka herself!

The Dish:

Dress: Custom made by Vera Wang and is said to be inspired by the likes of Princess Grace Kelly’s wedding gown when wore to wed Prince Rainier III of Monaco in 1956. Vera describes the gown as “royal & majestic”, not too revealing and actually handmade of lace. It also took an entire month to make! It pays to be Ivanka :)

Hair: Stylist Suelyn Fare (Who a week before the wedding gave Ivanka a trim and “Park Avenue Blonde” highlights)

Bridesmaids: According to NYPost, Vanessa Trump (the wife of Ivanka’s brother Donny) and half-sister Tiffany Trump (daughter from Donald’s 2nd marriage with Marla Maples) – wore Carolina Herrera gowns in the shade of ‘dusty lavender’.

Mother-in-laws: Both were dressed in peach. I think Ivana Trump still looks in amazing shape and I hear she even shared a dance with dear Donald.

Other guests: Apparently, a lot of black which is not quite the traditional colour of choice.

Special ‘guests’: The young Murdoch girls (Rupert & Wendi’s kids), Grace and Chloe, were “little bridesmaids.”  Always best to be on the good side of Fox news..!

Orchestra: “Hava Nagila.” A hebrew folk song which translates to ‘Let us rejoice’

Honeymoon: Africa! As the bride & groom are currently back at work… the honeymoon will take place in December.

and last but not least…

Classic Donald moment: Slipped in with the wedding invites was apparently a leaflet on Donald’s golf courses…

By the stairwell

By the stairwell

If you were one of the lucky 500 guests who were invited… your day would of looked something like this:

Program:

3 pm -  Family picture taking before guests arrived (Quite a big picture given Donald’s wives – past & present)

4 pm – Wedding ceremony

5:30 pm – Cocktails

7:30 pm – Guests take their seat at long, narrow, white tables which were under the big, white tent

2:30 am – Guests go home (making it an eight hour affair for some)

Daddy Trump, Barbara Walters & Donald's 3rd wife Mela

Daddy Trump, Barbara Walters & Donald's 3rd wife Melania

Other celebrity guests: Russell Crowe, Natalie Portman, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, Rupert & Wendy Murdock, Anna Wintour etc (Hmmm… I imaging sitting next to Anna rather stressful if you’re not dressed the part:)

Guest quotes:

Barbara Walters: “It was a gorgeous wedding… notice the dress had a high neck and sleeves as this was a Jewish orthodox wedding, it took Ivanka a year and a half to convert to Judaism… and of course Donald had the first dance with Ivanka”

Nikki Haskell (mother Ivana’s best friend):”Very touching. I love Ivanka… she’s just the most precious, wonderful girl… they must of taken every white rose in the United States… it was just elegant”

Ivanka & Jared dancing the night away... till 2:30 am apparently!

Ivanka & Jared dancing the night away... till 2:30 am apparently!

Well, I must say I respect Ivanka Trump and her hubby is rather cute in my humble opinion :) She could of taken the typical, rich kid path and opted for minimum working hours/ maximum trust funds… but instead has shown the world that she does take after Dad when it comes to that passion & zest for business.

For our TWG readers, Ivanka has left brides out there with these words of wisdom

“To all those women planning a wedding, just be organized and decisive. It also helps if you have a wedding planner helping you out!”
