I've had a mix of friends who have hired a wedding planner and those who didn't - if I had to choose though... I'd definitely get a planner. Weddings are a lot of work!

I have met many wedding planners who gave me a feeling that they are out there to earn more money/commission & not exactly on my side. You'd need to get to know your wedding planner before you engage him/her. If he/she is in the same wavelength as you eg the theme of the wedding, deco etc, that would be great! Oh, another thing i found is important is probably the age or the experience of the wedding planner. I'm in my mid 20's, I met a much older (same age as my dad) wedding planner & i felt as if i was getting instructions from my father/boss/'someone who thinks he knows way better than me' throughout our conversation. Definitely a big NO! My wedding planner is in her 20's or probably early 30's & it's so much fun discovering new things with her ;)

I am contemplating also to engage a wedding planner as my fiancee is urging me to go for it. However, I have the same opinion as amychong- I get the feeling they are out there to take a cut out of everything as well as not exploring other vendors as opposed to those they feel comfortable with but not meeting the clients' (couples') requirement. amychong -> would you mind if I get the contact of your wedding planner?

Hi girl, yes, agree, I also hesitate to appoint or not for a wedding planner.. as honestly, I am not a very orgnaise ppl + we have only 3 months to prepare our big day ( As due to Chinese tradition, the day is the best day in the year that suit both of us, or else we have to wait another year) After spend numerous weekends on visiting for more than 10 bridal house and seeking for friends advice.. we finally decided not to appoint a wedding planner, but we sign up Redbliss.. a so called a one-stop wedding shop..as they provide everything we need there….Photography, wedding card, wedding planner, bridal makeup, music & live band, hall decoration, chinese customary products, chaperon, wedding car rental, emcee, Videography and etc…. they are very professional ..and given such a short period of preparation, we hv a very memorable wedding ceremony ^^ …...

Hi all, I think it really comes down to the size of the wedding, the complexity of your wants and how soon it is to be held. A wedding planner can be great if you have any of the above as they have the contacts to move things forward at a rapid pace and also the experience to note the little things that are easy to forget and miss. The downside is that they definitely do have prefered vendors to use, but a good one will go with your own choices if you like (just remember this can add time).
