So, you finally did it. You mustered all of your courage to ask her to marry you and now that special day is drawing ever closer. You guys decide to adhere to the aged tradition of wedding gifts – what do you get her?

This gift requires looking back and examining your relationship. If you’re still stumped, here’s a few ideas we’ve cobbled together as a starting point and to inspire that idea for the perfect gift.

A Mix-Tape (or CD)OK, so iPod playlists have rendered this concept a tiny bit on the retro side, but again this is about the thought that goes into it. Start with your first dance or your first time out, then move on to songs that remind you of when you first got together, any from gigs you’ve been to together, whatever was playing in the background when you proposed, a song that has her name (or yours) in the title or lyrics… You can even print up a CD sticker to personalise it for her or come up with a fully printed cover with all sorts of personalized pictures.

A Relationship Journal

Why not give her a relationship journal, straight from your heart to hers. There are many different topics the groom can write about: First meeting, first impressions, something the bride may not know about the groom just to name a few. In the end, you have to just include the moments that meant the most to you all throughout your relationship up to your wedding day. You can either DIY this one or pick up one up ready made online from Lil Angel Gifts.

A Jar of Messages in Mini Envelopes

This is just what it sounds like, a glass jar full of messages of your love to her in mini envelopes, and she opens up the jar and reads these notes one at a time daily. Try to include personal messages with references that only you two know. Again, this is completely DIY-able if you’re the handy type or you can order one, ready made and completely customizable from KindNotes if you so prefer.

Jewellery

If your life-mate is a big fan of Jewellery, it’s simple: Cartier (or something similar) if you have thousands to spend, Tiffany (or your local Jewellery counterpart) if you have hundreds. A simple, classic diamond necklace or earrings will make her swoon, she can’t help it. Otherwise try a little crossover into “meaningful” and get a gold or silver locket with a picture of you in it – just make sure it’s a picture that looks okay.

Handbags

This is even trickier than jewellery in terms of taste, but if you can get this right you can probably get out of doing some of the chores for the rest of your life. David Beckham is said to have bought Victoria Beckham an Hermès Birkin bag in every colour (around $8000 – not for the faint-hearted); Chanel’s quilted 2.55 bags (around $1500) are a smaller, more manageable option and anything from Mulberry (around $600) will last for years.

There’s our recommendations, ranging from personalised DIY-able gifts to top-of the line consumer items. You’re sure to find a gift that will fit your bride to a perfect T. Just remember that the key is giving something that you KNOW your bride will like, you can even ask her friends about this if you’re not sure.
